While full service is available here at Axe Valley bed and breakfast, we feel that our guests should be allowed access to any point in the house at any given time. For this reason we converted our kitchen fit for the set of a talk show, for a top chef or to be fit for guests as well if they feel that they would like to cook a meal on their own. The homes kitchen sits easily accessible from the main living area. Enter our bed and breakfast through our luxurious set of exterior french doors, turn left through the living room and you are there. Our kitchen is stacked full of the latest and greatest kitchen gadgets, from commercial gas stoves and ovens to convection microwaves and stainless steel appliances. With a grocery store only 2 miles away, as a guest you are more than welcome to do your own shopping if there is a specific meal you would like to cook, or have prepared for you.
Keep in mind that this kitchen did not always look this way, as we bought this home in very poor condition with every intent on making it as beautiful and majestic as possible. The kitchen was one of the first features in this home to get a complete makeover, and was much needed. We gutted the entire kitchen down to the studs. This renovation included tearing out all the cabinets and the existing laminate countertops that covered them. The original 1940s stove was replaced, along with all the appliances that are now in the home. Some walls were moved around, so we had to hire an architect and engineer to remodel in such a way that is supporting walls could support the weight from the floors above.
After the kitchen was completely gutted, we treated for any possible bugs and termites, re-plumbed, rewired and re-insulated before covering up with new sheet rock. This was a daunting task and took us a little over three weeks to accomplish this part of our remodel. This does not even include the new slate flooring that went into the kitchen, along with brand-new cabinets and granite countertops. Spending a little over $21,000 for this remodel, we feel that you as a guest will enjoy spending some of your free time in the kitchen, possibly cooking for yourselves or learning from some of the top chefs we have on hand here at Axe Valley.
Axe Valley holds one class a week, for those who are interested in learning some of the culinary arts that some of our top chefs are more than happy to share with our guests. With a set menu to be cooked for your stay, you can choose one course to learn how to cook while you enjoy your weekend, or even week stay here with us. This is just an option, and is not mandatory. If you do not feel that you want to learn how to cook a specific meal, there is no pressure from us or from the cooking staff. We hope to see you soon here at Axe Valley bed and breakfast.
